LIST PICK

PET GROTESQUE 2 LATE

Having caught his captivating live set at the Brixton Windmill alongside SWEAT and Naima Bock (Goat Girl) the other week, it's safe to say that we've become obsessed with Pet Grotesque's woozy brand of lo-fi bedroom pop. With previous List Picks 'Boy' and 'Fantasy' making their way onto our heavy listening rotation, the South London-based songwriter has upped his game again with another addictive alt-pop banger. '2 Late' picks up where 'Fantasy' left off pairing 80s-inspired drum sounds with an undulating bass line, wobbly guitars, spaced-out synths and PG's ever-hooky vocal melodies, which echo the breathy whispers of Arthur Russell. With his brand new EP arriving this Friday (2nd of November), Pet Grotesque told TMR, "'Petrified' EP is my spin on Justin Timberlake's seminal LP 'Justified', albeit a bit darker and rougher around the edges. The lyrics on '2 Late' are largely improvised but I think it's about feeling stressed out about your life's general trajectory my friend Blue Niall helped write the hook and Jockstrap played strings on the track."
